PLANNING YOUR FILM : Individual film idea

INDIVIDUAL : You must plan and create a treatment  for an original short fictional  film ( 4-8 minutes in length) .

Your film idea  must have  a complete narrative ( main plot, opening and ending).

A Complete the following information about your film on the blog, in Word or on paper .

Genre(s): Horror

Draft title: The Noise

Brief summary of plot : ( Keep as simple as possible . e.g Who is your main character ?What do they want ? What's stopping him/her ? )
The main character is Ben. The film is based around the fact that he keeps hearing the same noise over and over again and he's trying to figure out where it's coming from.

Opening : How does your film start ? What is the first scene ? As your film is short, you will need to open your film in  a way which quickly establishes  the genre, setting, situation and characters of your film  :
It starts with the main character waking up in the living room. He hears noises in the house a few times by doesn't take notice

Ending what is your final scene? Is it an open or closed ending ?
It ends with the loudest bang the man hears and then the 'thing' is behind him and it blacks out. The ending could be considered both open and closed as you don't really know what has happened to the main character.

Single or multistrand narrative ?

Links and images from any  films , TV programmes etc. that have influenced you.

B    You  need to complete a draft  storyboard summarising  the  visual style , potential events, use of music /dialogue/sound fx   and  some possible  camera shots  from your film . This should be a minimum of   8 shots .

ASSIGNMENT A : Analysing the features of single camera productions

Example 1: Children of Men: Car Scene

P1: Format and genre:
Children of men would be a feature film. The genre of Children of Men would be a scifi. It doesn't really have the elements that a usual scifi film would have because it's more realistic than a scifi.

M1 Narrative features
Single strand / multi strand narrative

I think that this film is a single strand because it mainly focuses on the main character Theo and how he is trying to save the young girl Kee from being taken away
Short form or longform narrative
This would be a short form narrative as the movie is only 1hour and 54 minutes.

Narrative pace

In some scenes the pace of the events have a faster timing to them then others. For example, when it is near the ending when Verbal is leaving the detectives office, it has a slower element to it as it makes it more dramatic, however when the detective finally realises it speeds up and he feels like he is running out of time to catch the real Keyser Soze
Linear/nonlinear elements
This would be a linear element as there are no flashbacks and it just stays in the present day.Open/closed endings ( analyse endings of  feature films, episodes and seasons )
I think that the ending was an closed ending because we saw that Kee got into safety with her baby and we saw the being nursed by a nun in a safe place.
Realist/ Non-realist style

This would be a non realistic film because it's very dramatic. It contains many elements of the Scifi genre that wouldn't really happening in the real world.
Technical methods
Mis-en-scene  ( everything in the scene):
The mis-en-scene in very important in this scene. While the car is driving along the road, we see a burning car rolling down the hill, which entails that something bad is about to happen. The game that Julianne and Theo are playing with the ping pong ball plays an important role. Even though they're not in a relationship anymore, it shows that they can have a good friendship without it being weird, it's a representation of how their relationship used to be.
Use of camera shots,  framing , angles and movement
The whole scene is shot in the car. During the scene most of the camera shots are on the person who is most stressed at that particular moment. The movement of the camera isn't smooth and precise, which makes the scene even more dramatic and realistic and makes you feel like you are in car with them. The camera does 360 degrees turns which makes you see all the reactions of the actors faces throughout the scene. There are point of view shots within the scene, for example, when the shooters are coming on the bikes, we don't see them coming ourselves at first but instead we see Miriam's reaction to them coming and them the camera pans round quickly and we see the coming from her point of view from the back of the car. We see that the camera doesn't leave the car until the near ending when Theo gets out to see what has happened to the police after Luke shots them both. This kind of shows that he may have a more important role than we think.
Use of editing: cuts, fades and pace of edits.
Throughout the scene there isn't any camera cuts. This makes the scene very dramatic. The scene flows because there are no pauses or cuts. Having a whole scene without any cuts makes the scene very realistic because in real life there wouldn't be a cut in a car while driving down the road. This keeps up the excitement and the tension rises as we are expecting something to happen.
Use of lighting and colour
Throughout the scene the lighting is sort of dim and dull when they are in the car. There isn't that much light except outside the car. You can see the greenery from the trees and when the car crashes you can see the reds and orange colours when the flames start. I think the lighting in the car symbolises something. The only bright colours in the car would be the orange fruit that Miriam has. I think that this symbolises hope goodness, also, the fact that she is the only person in the car with brightly coloured clothes shows she could be the hope for all the characters but mainly Kee, because she is the one that needs the most help. Another colour in the car is the blood from when Miriam gets shot. This is important because she is one of the main characters at the start, and it looks like they wanted you to focus on her at the time of her death because of her importance.
Use of sound : diegetic music, non-diegetic music, sound effects.
At the beginning of the scene the main character Luke is told to stop snoring, the snoring is the first thing that we hear from anyone in this scene. During the scene you can hear the sound from the tyre on the floor when they are driving down the road. This makes it sound more realistic. Throughout the scene you can hear music in the background from the radio. The music on the radio is very subtle and calm. The music is continuous through the scene and different moments it changes in tone and speed, for example, when Julianne and Luke are playing with the ping pong game with their mouths, the music sort of speeds up and gives the audience a feeling as if something will happen between the two of them. Throughout the whole scene you can hear the song until the very end, where it just fades out as the scene ends and the car drives away down the road. You can hear the noise when the explosion from the car happens and it gives a big effect. After the gunshot to the front window that kills Julianne, you can hear the cracking and breaking of the window until it finally smashes. A few times during the film, a loud, ringing tone evocative of tinnitus is heard. This sound generally coincides with the death of a major character (Julian, Jasper) and is referred to by Julian herself, who describes the tones as the last time you'll ever hear that frequency. In this way, then, the loss of the tones is symbolic of the loss of the characters. When the two people on the bikes are coming next to  the car to get to the other passengers, you can hear the smash sound of the bike and the car door connect when Theo goes to block them from harming anyone else.
Use of script and dialogue :  Information about plot , character  and setting. Amount and level of information, including use of slang and terminology.
The dialogue in the scene helps us see what is actually happening without having to look. While they are in the car getting away from the madness and they see the police go by, Luke lets us know that the police may be following them after they have gone past. When we finally see that the police have turned around in the distance, Luke then starts shouting that he has to slow down repeatedly, even though we couldn't see them at the specific moment and continues to say it until the police are behind them.

Example 2: The usual Suspects: Ending Scene

P1: Format and genre:
This would be a feature film. I think the genre of Children of Men  would be crime, action and drama, as there are many different elements of each of these.

M1 Narrative features
Single strand / multi strand narrative:
I think that this film would be a multi strand narrative because we see two different situations happening. First we see what had happened leading up to the boat and how the person was killed. This is also the first time that we see the three main props used by Verbal, who may or not may not be Keyser Soze. Then we see many different scenarios play out to make sure that no one gets convicted of the murder.
Short form or longform narrative:
The usual suspects is a feature film so it would be a short form narrative as the movie is 1 hour and 46 minutes.
Narrative pace

In some scenes the pace of the events have a faster timing to them then others. For example, when it is near the ending when Theo is trying to rescue Kee, at some points the camera speeds up and other points it is at a normal pace.Linear/nonlinear elements:
This film would be a non-linear element. I think this because there are some flashbacks to past times to present day even though it's a made up past. First we see Keyser Soze and what happened to the man that got killed. When we see some of the stories being told by Verbal, it goes back to the point on the boat with different people being the killer.
Open/closed endings:
The ending is sort of an open ending because we never really find out who the real Keyser Soze is. However, we do see that the detective has some what sussed out that Verbal might have been the killer.
Realist/ Non-Realist style:

The usual suspects would be a realist style as the story line is realistic in the way that the people are talking and the situations that are happening. The editing of the camera is realistic as some of the camera shots aren't all perfect and still, there are some jittery shots which makes it look more realistic. In the mis-en-scene, it seems to have normal items are a realistic place would have, for example the detectives office, there are papers of evidence around which would be there in the real world.

D1 Technical methods
Mis-en-scene  ( everything in the scene)
During this scene, when Verbal is talking, he is making up his story by looking at the stuff that is scattered around the room, like the papers on the walls and the mug that the detective is holding.
Use of camera shots,  framing , angles and movement
Throughout the scene the camera shots vary depending on what is happening at that very moment. There are loads of close ups to see the facial expressions of the actors. The ending scene starts with a shot of Verbal walking out of the office in the background and the detective in the foreground; this makes the audience feel and look like they are part of the scene and they are in the office. The camera cuts and from inside the office to outside and we see the detective closing the door, while this is happening the camera starts to zoom out for us to see a full shot of him. The movie looks as if it was going to end there due to it panning out and the man closing the door, it looks like the film is leaving and thats the end, but it cuts to another scene.

Use of editing: cuts, fades and pace of edits.

In the scene the editing has many face pace cuts for more of a dramatic effect. When there has been some sort of realisation, the shots become more chaotic  and they aren't that smooth.
Use of sound : diegetic music, non-diegetic music, sound effects.
In this scene, the music symbolises that something is going to happen, so its like a build up to the result. The music builds it up and then the voice takes over. The music is very dramatic, so that it leaves an impact of the audience. When we see the detective suddenly realising what just happened, the music is representing the fact tat he is reliving what has just happened and how he just let Keyser Soze walk away free.

MARINA - AUTUER

Description: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/19/Tim_Burton_Frankenweenie_2012_3.jpgTim Burton

Tim Burton is an American film director, producer, artist, writer, and animator.
Tim Burton would be considered as an auteur because his films all have a similar aspect to them. He is known for his dark, gothic, macabre, and quirky horror and fantasy films.
Description: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3b/Edwardscissorhandsposter.JPGHe has done films such as the horror comedy fantasy Beetlejuice (1988), the romantic dark fantasy Edward Scissorhands (1990), the musical fantasy-thriller The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), the comedy-drama biopic Ed Wood (1994), the fantasy adventure Sleepy Hollow (1999), the animated fantasy Corpse Bride (2005), the musical horror film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), the horror comedy Dark Shadows (2012) and the animated horror comedy Frankenweenie (2012).

Description: Image result for tim burton filmsDescription: https://d2fzf9bbqh0om5.cloudfront.net/var/www/apps/rebelsmarket/production/current/public/system/blog/post_pictures/data/content/1000.jpgTim Burton has worked repeatedly with Johnny Depp, who has become a close friend of Burton since their first film together. He has also worked with musician Danny Elfman, who has composed scores for all but two of the films Burton has directed. Actress Helena Bonham Carter, Burton's former domestic partner, has appeared in many of his films.

Tim Burton says that he was influenced by the works of such childhood heroes as Dr. Seuss and Roald Dahl.
As a student in CalArts, Burton made the shorts Stalk of the Celery Monster and King and Octopus. He graduated in 1979. Stalk of the Celery Monster attracted the attention of Walt Disney Productions' animation department, which offered Burton an animator's apprenticeship at the studio. He worked as an animator, storyboard artist and concept artist on films such as The Fox and the Hound (1981), The Black Cauldron and Tron.[7] However, Burton's personal style clashed with Disney's standards, and he longed to work on solo projects.
Tim Burton uses the same types of colours for all of his films. He uses a lot of dark colours such as blacks, greys, reds, and other dull colours. However, he does use brighter colours but darker colours are one of his signature things.

Charlie and the chocolate factory:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Roald Dahl. Starring Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Bucket, the film generally took a more faithful approach to the source material than the 1971 adaptation, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, although some liberties were taken, such as adding Wonka's issue with his father (played by Christopher Lee). Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ was later nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. The film made over $207 million domestically. Filming proved difficult as Burton, Depp, and Danny Elfman had to work on this and Burton's Corpse Bride at the same time.
This film might be one of the only films that he has done with the most colours, even though there is a section when he has flashbacks to his childhood and those scenes are in grey dull tonal colours.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE WORK - DENISE

Improvements:

M2: Review strategies used in health and social care environments to overcome barriers to effective communication and interpersonal interactions.

Room Size:

There are many positives of changing the room size to fit the service user’s needs. One positive is that it will make them feel more comfortable and so that they can feel more at ease to talk about their problems. This will be a good thing to do because it will not only benefit the service user but also the therapist.

Also, there are some negatives to changing the room size. One negative is; even if you do change the room, it still might not be the appropriate room for them so it could make them even worse or more uncomfortable, also the previous room may be warm but when you move, it might not have the same atmosphere the first room had. Another negative could be that the room that you are changing to may be cluttered and it could make the patient feel enclosed in the space. So, to ensure that the patient feels most comfortable, the therapist needs to clear out the room and put the clutter into a storage cupboard so that the room has the right comfortable in it for the patient.

Cultural Differences:

The advantages of cultural differences in health and social settings are; it involves different people who have similarities and differences in relation to nationality, race, colour, gender, religion or age, in other words, and wide range of culture throughout people from diverse backgrounds. Organisational behaviour relates to the nature of interactions among people and groups within an organisation. The positive influence of cultural diversity encourages the organisational staff to build relationships and be aware of each other regardless of their differences of origin and background.

The disadvantages of cultural differences in health and social settings are that diversity is generally seen as a positive for companies that manage it effectively. There are barriers that aren’t visible such as communication issues which could be cause by the differences in ethnicity, race, religion, gender and other individual qualities that can produce negative effects, particularly if they are not well-managed. The negative effects of diversity are preventable if the organisation doesn’t support tolerance and acceptance of differences.

Questionnaire Feedback

For my primary research on my film idea I did a questionnaire to get the opinions of others on my film poster. I asked 2 guys and 1 girls what they thought of my film poster and the results came back varied. All 3 people I asked all had a different favourite genre of film, unfortunately none of them chose drama as theirs, which made it harder for me to try and convince them to like the film. However, I did ask if they all like the poster and two out three of the people actually liked the poster which is a good thing. one person said that it was mysterious, which is good because I didn't really state what the genre was, which makes it still a mystery until it has been watched. I asked what improvements that i needed to make to the poster and they said the font, this wasn't effective enough for the viewers and I agree with that.

ORIGINAL FILM PROMOTION PACK 2 : Production proposal

The aim for my poster campaign is to appeal to those from the age of years 15+. The target audience would be both men and women from the age of 15 upwards as this would have some content that might not suitable for younger age. On my poster, I have put the ratings as 5 star from the magazine 'The Guardian' to try to make it appeal to more people as they would think that it is a good film if it has 5 stars from a well known critic magazine. I should hope that my poster reached audience expectations of what type of genre this film is by the title itself as it's a one worded title and it's a very emotional word which would have an effect on the audience. The use of colour relates to the title to show what type of film this would be, for example, because the title is 'Revenge', the colours would look suitable if they were darker than lighter as it fits in more. The lighting is very dim and dark as it also relates to what will be happening in the film. The image I have chosen is a simple black silhouette which is mysterious and grows mystery on the audiences minds. The fact that you can't see the person's face makes it more effective as you don't know type of person he will be and even what he looks like now.

The production company I have chosen to approach my film is Von Zerneck Sertner Films which is a American Independent producer. They have done films such as 'Revenge of the Bridesmaid', Sorority Wars and Tornado. The distributors for 'Revenge of the Bridesmaids' were ABC Fmily, film 1, Nets5, Sky Cinema

ORIGINAL FILM PRODUCTION 1 : ORIGINAL FILM POSTER CAMPAIGN

ORIGINAL FILM PRODUCTION 1 : ORIGINAL FILM IDEA AND POSTER CAMPAIGN

Title:
The title of my film will be 'Revenge'

Synopsis:

My film will be about a man who is set on getting back at everyone who did something to him while he was in high school. While in high school John Matthews wasn't like the other kids in his classes, he was always the one to sit at the front of his classes and answer every question that got asked. This then led to him getting bullied by the kids that would call him the teacher’s pet and all sorts of other names. There was a particular group of students that would wait for him outside his classes and outside the school when it had finished to do mean things to him, which would then make him go home crying and with all sorts of bruises.  After a year, his parents decided to move him out of that school and to another one where he was treated better and made more friends than he did at his last school. He was much happier. After he had finished high school, and went off to college , he swore to himself that he get revenge on all the people that did him wrong; and that's exactly what he did.

The main character will be called John Matthews, who is 21 and has just started university after taking a gap year. He was a bit of a nerd and a little fat, from the comfort eating when he was in high school, which led to him being bullied, but he came over that and had since then transforms his body into a nicely toned muscled body.

the genre of my film will a drama film. This is very popular these days when it comes to what is on TV and in the cinema.

TV ADVERTISEMENT PRODUCTION TREATMENT

Technical Resources:
Equipment needed: camera and tripod
Props needed: bedroom props, iPhone
Editing Software: iMovie
Cameras:

Technical Constraints:
If i won't be able to use one of the colleges cameras to do my filming I will have to find someone who has one and isn't using and use that one. Also, if I am unable to make the deadline, I will make sure that I speak to the teacher to get an extended due date, and I will have to work hard to try and meet the deadline.

Approximate Overall Budget:
I've decided that i would go for the silver package I thought that it was more achievable with my product.
Silver Package - £35,000 includes:
  • Production of a 30" advert
  • Clearing of a 30" advert
  • Playout to all TV station(s) on plan
  • Guaranteed 6.5m views of your 30" advert
  • Day to day planning, buying and monitoring of your TV campaign by our experienced buyers
  • Spot lists sent week before campaign starts, weekly updates & final spot list
  • Post campaign analysis - comparing actual delivery against planned delivery

Summary of Potential Audience:
Target Audience: this product is going to targeted to all genders aged 12 - 20, with the interest of getting a good nights sleep and like to have an alarm to wake up when needed. I think it should be shown often when it first gets released so that people know about it and get it for themselves.

Legal and Ethical Issues:
In my advert there may be some legal and ethical issues that may occur. For example, in section 3 - misleading advertising. this could happen if I was to advertise on the TV saying that the app is free, but when people go to buy it, it says something like £1.99 to pay.

ASSIGNMENT TASK 1 ZOMBIE FILM ANALYSIS ( Genre conventions)

The 3 long films 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Shawn of the Dead' and the short film 'Cargo' were all good zombie films. They all have good qualities to them and are all different but have some similarities which makes them all unique in their own ways. 'Dawn of the Dead' is the original film that made up the conventions for zombie films. The other films would be following some of these conventions but breaking others and making up new ones so that it's not a direct copy of 'Dawn of the Dead'.

Setting
All films start in very different ways, in 'Dawn of the Dead' we are introduced immediately to the situation of the zombie apocalypse  in the outside world as soon as it starts with loads of reporters in the studio arguing and running around like crazy trying to figure out what to and calling in people to kill the zombies. 'Shawn of the Dead' starts off very different, it starts in the home of the two main characters looking all sloppy and disorientated not knowing what happening in the world around them. It's the first time that we hear some of the most repeated lines going to happening during the film. 'Cargo' starts off in a car with the mum already a zombie and the dad covering from the crash.

'Dawn of the Dead' is set in the streets and building of urban America, this setting links into the idea as to whether the zombie apocalypse is in the rest of the world or just America. Another key setting in this film is the shopping mall. This is where all the survivor characters take themselves as they think that it is the best place to kill the zombies. Once they get there they hide out in an office space and plan out what they are going to do. One place in the shopping mall the go to is a big store where the take what items that they want, but also to lure the zombies to one of the shops bottom level doors so that they can get out from the top level to get back to the storage room.

'Shawn of the Dead' at first is mainly based in the home of Shawn, Ed and Pete. We see that it looks like a frat house, where it's just messy and unorganised. Then we see the scenery from the house through the street and to the shop. We only see them in the house for for short when everything is normal and then we see the same scene when the zombie outbreak has begun, but this time when Shawn gets back, Ed finds that there is girl in the garden, that doesn't look quite right not realising that she is a zombie. When they finally realise what is happening. they finally hear what is on the TV and they hear they message.

In 'Cargo', the main setting is a forest. we see that they have crash into a tree in the forest but we don't see how it all happened for them to be there. Throughout the film, we see the dad and his baby walking through to get to an open space stooping just a few times to sort things out, like stopping the baby from crying by getting a balloon from someone's background as there was previously a birthday party going on. This is the only time that we saw another setting in the movie before they started of walking through the forest again.

Narrative

In all films there is a zombie breakout , but not all of the same seriousness in all 3 films. In 'Dawn of the Dead', it starts off being very dramatic because the zombie apocalypse is a new thing and no one has ever seen anything this serious. We first see a bunch of reporters in a television studio where everything is going a bit crazy. We see loads of broadcasts going out that something very serious is happening. It shows everyone arguing, which entails to the audience that the zombie outbreak has begun and we have been thrown straight into the it s everything is in chaos.  The main plot starts with some of the survivors teaming up to find a place of refuge - in this case, they go to the shopping mall. This little team of survivors become a family unit so that they all depend on each other to stay safe and look out for each other, also we learn that the main woman character Francine, is pregnant which means that they have to keep her even more safe so she doesn't lose the baby. 'Dawn of the Dead' is a linear film as there is no flashbacks or forwards, we just see it go from scene to scene. This film has an open ending as the hero and heroine leave the shopping mall in the helicopter but with not the much fuel, which entails that we would see them again in the aftermath of them running out of fuel.

In 'Shawn of the Dead', the zombie outbreak isn't as fast, but it doesn't show anyone being attack or turned in to zombies, we just see that everyone is a zombie at one time. We first see that Shawn is having another bad day but this time him being completely oblivious to the fact that the zombies are trying to come after him and he's  just thinks it's another ordinary oblivious day. We see Shawn sit down on the sofa looking tired and worn out maybe because of the night he had before might have been long and full of energy, which has now made him feel lifeless. After that, we see that he is still completely oblivious, this time to the TV as a message is said mainly to him while he is flicking through the channels. In 'Shawn of the Dead', there are no flash backs, however it can almost be considered as non-linear. We can sort of see that is non-linear due to the fact that Shawn sometimes has these moments where he plans out what he is going to do with his day. For example, when he finally realises that there us in fact a zombie outbreak, he finds out from his mum that his step dad is ill , so this makes him think that he is turning into a zombie himself, so he makes this plan to save him mum and kill his stepdad.

In 'Cargo', we start of with seeing the main man character all disorientated from a car crash and realising that something is wrong when he see that his wife is a zombie trying to get him. We don't see how the zombi apocalypse began but we do know there there is one somewhere, and maybe thats why they crashed because they were trying to get away from it not knowing that they were infected themselves. 'Cargo' is considered as a linear film because it all goes from one scene to another and we don't anything from before or after. The film I think is just about the daughter mainly, as she s the most vulnerable because she can't do anything for herself, and it is just her journey to safety

Characters

In all 3 of the 4 films, there were the traditional zombies that we would see in zombie films, but in '28 Days Later' there are not. In '28 Days Later', the zombies were all raging lunatics that were running around trying to infect others that weren't. The raging zombies are the more threatening They all had the same type of effect, the slow walk, the growling speech and the torn out clothes. In 'Shawn of the Dead', the first we see of a zombie is the same man that was walking by his house we he walked out the first time, but this time Shawn being completely oblivious to him. We the start to see a lot more zombies trying to go after him to bite him and turn him into one, with him still not noticing.

In 'Shawn of the Dead', we see that there are two groups of survivors, which we see throughout the film. The first group that we see is Shawn's group, which is him, Ed, Barbara, David, Liz and Dianne. After a while of them figuring out their plan of what to do, we see them walking through people's gardens so that they aren't seen by zombies on the main road, we see the second survival group which is Yvonne's group. We see that both groups have the same amount of people in them. The zombies in Shawn of the Dead, are the typical zombies that would appear any zombie film. We see that they just want to capture people and turn them into zombies. We see this when Shawn and the gang are trying to get into the pub to see refuge. When the get stuck on how to get in, Shawn make sure that only be is at the centre of attention to the zombies by screaming and luring them away from the rest of the gang. The zombies start to follow with their arms out trying to catch him and sound like they want to get him.

In 'Dawn of the Dead' there is all different main characters with their own strengths. During this film we see that Peter, is the main hero throughout. He is the smart one out of the group of survivors. We see him always thinking things through before he does anything, like risking his own life to keep the rest of them safe. I think that the main heroine would be Francine. Throughout the film the viewers see that she is the strong one, as she is going through this zombie apocalypse while pregnant. The audience sees that she is an independent and strong character as she is the only female in the group of survivors. The zombies in 'Dawn of the Dead', didn't really have that dramatisation that you would expect a zombie to have. They weren't that believable due to them just walking as if they were pretending to be zombies. There not convincing enough.

The film 'Cargo' proves that the dad is the main hero. He see, even though he was turning into a zombie, he just wanted the best for his daughter. He knew that it would take long for him to transform into a zombie , so he wrote on him self the time it would take and how far he he would be able to travel until he would transform. We also see that when the baby is found, that he also wrote on her belly who she was so that when she was found the people would know. At the end of the film we see that main heroine is the woman who heard the baby cry and picked her up. We see her cradle her like she is her own baby, which shows to the audience that she will take care of her now that she doesn't have her parents. This gives the audience hope that she will have a good life after this moment. The zombies that we see in cargo are typical zombies. the first zombie that we see is the mum, and she is just trying to get to the dad and infect as well. She sounds like she is growling and trying to say things. I feel like when the dad turns into a zombie, he is still smart enough to know what to do. When he saw the human parts on the ground, he knew to put them in a bag and hang it in front of him to follow it and try and catch it to eat, this moved his attention away from his daughter to not try and eat her. This represents hope as well.

Technical conventions :

In  'Cargo', there are a lot of technical conventions. In this short film there is much dialogue going on, only music and sound effects and what is said is only speak from father to baby. The only thing he says in "bye mummy, bye mummy" when he hands her the sticker from the car tat is supposed to represent the mm. Having little dialogue is effective because it tells the story well even without it; it adds a lot more tension and mood.  The starting is introduced in with tension as the music sets the mood to be a little scary and dramatic. It starts with a slight bang, which instantly tells us that something has gone wrong that we don't know about. Then it goes on to have a spooky sound when we see the man coming back to reality after what has happened. Then we hear the wife growling at her husband trying to get to him so she can bite him. A key sound effect in the film is the crying of the baby. At the start and at the end, we hear the baby crying. I think this is a key sound effect because I think she symbolises different emotions. When we first hear her cry, she symbolises anxiety and fear because we just seen that there has been a zombie breakout and we don't want her to be captured by her mum. However, when we hear her at the end, it gives the audience that sigh of relief because we now know what her father has gone through to save her and the people have found her and are going to keep her safe. Throughout the film, the colour and lighting was bright. This is effective because it makes the audience not feel that edge that would usually be in zombie films. I think there is a underlying meaning to this. I think, although it was a zombie film and bad things have happened, it was always going to be a hopeful film for the baby.

In 'Dawn of the Dead' there is also a lot of technical conventions. In this film it uses a variety from props , costume, makeup, lighting , use of camera, and sound and music. By this film using all these conventions, it gives a more powerful effect on the audience. Many of the scenes in the film are mostly dark, this also gives an effect to the audience. The main prop in the film would have to be guns , as it is a good choice of weaponry within the film as it allows them to kill the zombies without them getting to close.  The costumes throughout the film on both the survivors and the zombies all symbolise what type of person they are or used to be. We see that the zombies look all worn out through their clothes, as they all have rips and blood on their clothes. the main make up in the film is the special effects make up that has been used to make the zombies look realistic. The make up doesn't really look hat realistic because it looks a very light red when in reality it would be darker. Also the colour of the zombie skin doesn't look like a realist dead person colour it just looks a bit weird. The lighting in 'Dawn of the Dead' is sometime set in a darker or dim tone to add tension, for example, when Flyboy was being hunted by the zombies in the pipe room. The sound effect and music was a good key aspect of the film. The music added tension when it was needed. It would be upbeat when the shooting was going on and downbeat in the aftermath. Some sound effects didn't sound that realistic, such as when they would shoot. I think it should have been in a low pitch for it to sound more realistic. When the gang had got into the storage room, the music went from being an upbeat tune to sounding like an orchestra, this replaced dialogue and gave a dramatic feel.

In 'Shawn of the Dead' we see that there are many different props that they use to try and kill that zombies. We first see Shawn and Ed just just ordinary things that you would find in your house, like a toaster. We see that they don't use guns that much in the film only one time when they are in the pub taking refuge. When the finally get into the pub they mainly use the pool cues to beat them, and they do in a fashionable way due to doing it to the music. The costumes that we see through the film don't really change. We see that Shawn stays in his work clothes throughout the film but we see that someone notices that she was has red on him and that become more and more throughout the film, it's the same for everyone else as well, they all stay in the same clothes. This may be because it's set in the course of two days and they have the same looking clothes. The dialogue through the film is sort of in joke terms due to this being a comedy and a zombie film. Witty things are said through the group such as "You're the one that's gone from being a chartered accountant to Charlton Heston".
