ASSIGNMENT TASK1 : TV ADVERT ANALYSIS

Cadbury's Gorilla Advert.

Form and Style:
This advert counts as a anti-realist advert. It's classed as an anti-realist because in the real world you wouldn't see a gorilla playing the drums in a studio. At first watch, some people would consider this to be humorous because, it's funny when the gorilla first starts playing the drums. This advert is also surreal because it is very bizarre to see a gorilla playing drums which is unconnected to the product or everyday life.

Codes and Conventions:
In the advert it starts off with the use of a close up of the gorillas face and continues but with a range of different close up shots for the majority of the beginning of the advert until the beat to the song drops, which makes you wonder what the advert is going to be about because it doesn't state thats its the cadbury's advert until the end. I think it uses these different camera shots to show how realist the gorilla looks and to show its not just a man in a suit. The camera edits zooms out from close up to long shot to show what is in the room. In the background, the walls are purple which relates to the product because of the colour of the cadbury's advert. The music in the advert that the gorilla is drumming to is a song by Phil Collins called "waiting all night". When the beat kicks in, the gorilla begins to do the drum bit in sync with the song itself. The graphics in the advert come at the end when the product fades in and flips to show the from and then the slogan fades in afterwards. There isn't a overt message in this advert, however there is a hidden message, which is the Cadbury's gives you joy. Also the emotional response to this advert is joy. In this advert there is no celebrity endorsement.

Wowcher Advert.

Form and Style:
This advert would count as a realist advert. It would be classed as a realist advert because the woman is in the hairdressers and there is a real vibe in the background because of all of the people and the noises. This advert is dramatic because it is set in a realist style, and it is set in everyday world that presents ordinary people and their problems.

Codes and Conventions:

In the advert it starts off with a mid shot of the hairdresser, which is then zoomed in to in him doing the woman’s hair. The mis-en-scene is very realistic, for example, there are many other people in the hairdressers getting their hair done and talking and everyone just looks very professional. There are loads of props that tie in with the advert such as hair products, dryers and combs etc. Iconography is an interesting element as all the people in the advert are young white women getting their hair done.
